A tailored winery experience…

With over thirty Stanthorpe wineries to choose from in the Granite Belt area, the options are endless when creating your perfect tour. As we know, everyone has different tastes when it comes to wine, so why not let us design a bespoke winery experience to make your day that bit more special.

From tweaking one of our existing wine tours, perhaps by adding a favourite winery, to creating your own experience from scratch, just ask and we will build a personalised itinerary to suit you.

Below is a list we have put together of just some of our favourite wineries you may like to consider for your personalised tour. There are many more available, so if you know of somewhere specific you’d like to include, please just ask.

The one recommendation we do always make when creating your own itinerary is that a maximum of four wineries is preferred, this ensures everyone has an enjoyable and relaxed day.

Bent Road

An appointment only vineyard, Bent Road winery has been operating commercially since 2005. Surrounded by untouched Australian bush, fresh air and granite rocks, it has won three State and nineteen National Awards for their intensely-flavoured wines.

When you meet Glen you will discover a man with many stories and learn about the Georgian clay wine barrels he uses. Quevri are buried underground for about six months before the wine is ready to taste. This winery is the only one in the area that makes Quervi wine this way. Finish your experience at this unique winery by tasting samples in the old Church.

Ridgemill Estate

As they say on their website, life is too short to be serious, except when it comes to producing quality wine and a fabulous place to retreat. On offer on the estate are vineyard walks, guided tastings and picnic hampers, with a beautiful deck to sit out on and look over the property.

Ridgemill is home to the Granite Belt’s oldest Temranillo Vines. The vines were first planted in the 1990’s in a location that sits 840 metres above sea level, so if European wines are your thing, think the Roja Region in Northern Spain. Yes premium wines are grown here too!

Tobin Wines

A Visit to Tobin Wines is a must. While here, you will be taken through the story of the winery and the wines. It was purchased in 2000 as it had shiraz and Semillon planted from the 1960’s. They kept a low profile for a decade, perfecting their wine. They believe in growing the wine, not making it - their philosophy is old world.

When finally released, they entered the market with a brilliant Chardonnay, a wonderful Tempranillo and more - a collection of truly superb wines. Attention to detail pervades every detail of the wines. Each wine is named after a member of the family, so taste some and see who your favourite child is!

Whiskey Gully Wines

Whiskey Gully Wines, at Severnlea, is a 260 acre modern vineyard producing fine wines from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Colombard vines. This winery strives to be informative, as they all do, but also instil some fun. Always entertaining is their motto, and perhaps John may bring out his guitar!

You will be struck by the old world charm of the vineyard, which also extends to the furnishings and hosts, as you are made to feel welcome straight away. Enjoying relaxing on the verandah of this beautiful homestead watching for birds, feeling the cool breeze, listening to John’s stories and of course a fine drop of wine.

Heritage Estate Wines

A well respected winery with a plethora of awards. As the name suggests, there is a lot of heritage here. For example, you could sit at the table where Queensland was declared a state and the paperwork was signed.

Other curiosities include the 80+ year old Pianola which guests can play by pushing the peddles, a workers’ card punch time clock, railway equipment, old scales and other objects of unknown origin.
Perhaps you would enjoy their Nips and Nosh package, a degustation lunch with wine pairing. Beautiful food, beautiful wine.

Just Red Wines

Not a fan of white wine, then this may be the vineyard for you! A boutique winery in the Granite Belt region specialising in red wine, made on the premises from grapes grown on the property. Varieties include Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat and a small planting of Viognier.

Tony, Julia and their son Michael are proud of their 100% authentic Granit Belt wine. Quick to point out they do not use insecticides in the vineyard and minimise the use of fungicides, they achieve this by concentrating on grape varieties that can tolerate occasional wet summers. Tony, Julia and Michael are always ready to ‘talk wine’.

Bungawarra Winery

There has been a vineyard at Bungawarra (which means ‘Granite Rock by Shallow Water’) for more than one hundred years. Angelo Barbagello, a post war Italian migrant, arrived in 1920 began making wine here soon after.

Current plantings span a total of 5.5 hectares, with a variety of grapes grown. The Muscat vines here were planted by Angelo himself, so are now over eighty years old, oh the stories they could tell! All phases of wine making are done on the estate, from fruit production through to bottling. This is a truly boutique winery, with many awards to its credit.
